A Message from the Conference Chair
On behalf of the Agricultural Viability Alliance and WVU Extension, I’m looking forward to welcoming you to “Almost Heaven,” West Virginia, in spring 2024!
This will be the first time the National Farm Viability Conference is meeting in person post-pandemic, so we are excited to see you in West Virginia, home of the New River Gorge, the country’s 63rd and newest national park. The Mountain State is home to spirited small towns, undiscovered hidden gems and world-class outdoor adventures, where country roads lead you far away from everything, and a little closer to heaven! Feel free to stay awhile after the conference.
This year’s theme, “Mountains of Excellence - Growing Equity, Inclusion and Sustainability,” invites us to imagine how we move farm viability efforts forward given the lessons learned over the past few years, especially around the COVID-19 pandemic and social justice issues. As the nation’s premier convening of agricultural service providers working to provide viability related services and assistance to small and medium-sized farm and food businesses, West Virginia is an excellent backdrop, given that we have the highest concentration of small family farms in the U.S. and recognition as a top travel destination in 2022 by national travel publishers Frommers and USA Today.
This is an outstanding opportunity for agricultural and business technical assistance professionals, industry experts and policy makers working in the broad area of farm viability, to share programs, initiatives, success stories, challenges and ideas for improvements, and to network with other professionals.
The conference is open to all agricultural and business technical assistance stakeholders.
I look forward to sharing more details soon and to seeing you in West Virginia!
